Vos Third at Hoogerheide, Looks Ahead to Worlds!
The World Cup Cyclo-Cross season came to a muddy end on Sunday in Hoogerheide, the Netherlands. With the overall title already firmly in Marianne Vos’ grasp after her win in France, she could have called it a rest week in preparation for World Championships next weekend. Instead, she came out of the gate full blast, controlling the opening lap in front of a home crowd and finishing on the podium in third.
Through the final laps of the race, Vos battled with multiple riders for the podium and ultimately held off fierce competitors by racing at her own pace through the “mudfest.” Both the conditions and the level of competition could be telling leading into the World Championships in Bogense, Denmark.
“I'm in good shape,” said Vos with regards to Worlds. “Next week I will take some rest and then I must be ready. The competition is big, however, as everyone has seen again today.”
After the action concluded in Hoogerheide, Vos accepted her World Cup overall trophy and Inge van der Heijden accepted her World Cup third place in the U23 category. The Elite Women’s CX World Championships race will take place Saturday, February 2 and the U23 competition will follow Sunday, February 3.
