The race began with a 1.5km out and back swim in Pineview Reservoir below Snowbasin Resort. Paterson exited the water in sixth, trailing the leader by more than two minutes. With time to make up, she hit the trails aboard her Liv Obsess Advanced hardtail and earned the fastest bike split of the day over the 28km course. Paterson used her strength to power out the another race-best time on the 10km run to take the win.
“It was a fight to the bitter end for me,” said Paterson. “I started off with a poor swim, had the fastest bike split, but still came off the bike 2.5 mins down. I barreled through the run and ended up winning by about 2 mins! Very proud of my fight and ready for a build to worlds!”
Paterson is the reigning XTERRA World Champion and will head to Maui to defend her title next month.
