Gordon kicks off the Cross Crusade with 2 second place finishes!
Another set of second place finishes.
Serena Gordon of the Liv Co-Factory Off-Road Team continued her cyclocross season this weekend with a double-header at Alpenrose Dairy, the first two races in the Cross Crusade Series, the largest CX series in the country.
Unusually dry conditions made for a fast track and loose, technical corners. Prepared and ready, Gordon took the hole-shot in Saturday’s race and led the for majority of the race before suffering a mechanical, making a bike exchange in the pit and finishing second.
Even after Saturday night’s rain, the track on Sunday remained dry and dusty and the modifications to the course provided more sustained climbing and a few new off-camber sections not included in Saturday’s edition. Gordon again took the hole shot, with Clara Honsinger on her wheel. Together, Gordon and Honsinger were able to put a sizable gap between themselves and the rest of the field and traded the lead for the first half of the race. After an untimely puncture and another trip to the pit, Honsinger put a gap in that Gordon could not overcome.
“The Cross Crusade opening weekend at Alpenrose Dairy is always full of great energy and community. This year’s dusty conditions made for a very different race dynamic than in previous years and exposed rocks and roots that are typically swallowed up in mud. Unfortunately, I fell victim to a few of these rocks and had to visit the pit both days, where my “B” Brava SLR was waiting for me. With a quick bike exchange I was able to hold on to two second place finishes. With this race in the books, I’m already looking forward to battling for the top spot next weekend!”
Gordon heads to Cascade Lakes, OR next Sunday for the third race in the Cross Crusade Series.
