Coryn Rivera Wins Ride London Classique!
On the wet and technical criterium course through the British capital, Team Sunweb swept away the completion, leading the sprint competition with a strong performance by Leah Kirchmann, the overall team classification, and the race victory, as Coryn Rivera road to her fourth WorldTour win.
The Ride London Classique consisted of 12 laps through the city, covering 66 kilometers. With several tight corners, the rain played a factor in the peloton’s aggressiveness in the corners but didn’t affect the overall speed of the race and the group stayed bunched until the final meters.
Featuring three intermediate sprints on laps three, six and nine, Ride London gave racers the chance to compete for the sprinter’s title – and gave Team Sunweb the opportunity to practice what would become their race-winning lead out. The practice paid off, not only for Rivera who won the day but also for Leah Kirchmann who powered to three consistent finishes in the intermediate sprints to secure the overall sprint classification.
“It was a really fun, aggressive race,” said Rivera. “The girls did a brilliant job and Leah was amazing in the sprints and took that home. That also meant that the girls could practice our lead-out a little bit before the finish which was great. We knew where we had to be and we were there, it all came down to timing in the end.”
Rivera’s timing proved to be impeccable aboard her Envie Advanced Pro team bike.
