Best Moments of Giro Rosa 2017
Now that the Giro Rosa has wrapped up and the riders of Team Sunweb are resting and preparing for the next race, we take a look back at some of the event highlights.
- So Much Excitement for Women’s Road Cycling!
Fans from all over the world tagged #LivRosa and put on a pair of funky sunglasses to celebrate women’s cycling and show their support for the ladies racing in the 10-day stage race. Over 500 posts showed their support with #LivRosa and fans followed Twitter religiously with live updates via accounts like @UCI_WWT and @TeamSunweb.
- Flawless Teamwork.
The women of Team Sunweb kicked of Giro Rosa by securing a strong second place finish in the Team Time Trial. Their flawless teamwork carried on throughout the 10-day race, taking riders to podium finishes and eventually leading to second place overall in the team classification.
- Double Dose of Podium for Coryn Rivera.
Through challenging climbs, hot weather, and strong attacks from the peloton, there were still quite a few stages that ended with a bunch sprint. Coryn Rivera has been strong on stages that end with a mass fight to the finish, finding her way to the front with the help of her teammates and powering ahead of the pack. Those tactics took Rivera to two podium finishes, a third place on Stage 4 and an exciting second place finish on Stage 6. Rivera also put in a fight on the final two stages, finishing just behind the podium in fifth on Saturday’s Stage 9 and charging in the lead breakaway during Stage 10 for nearly the entire race.
- Lucinda Brand’s Amazing Solo Win.
Winning the Queen Stage (Stage 8) of Giro Rosa is a big enough feat, but doing it after chasing solo for 30 km and crashing in the process is awe-inspiring. Lucinda Brand would not settle for second place and grabbed Team Sunweb’s only Giro Rosa win – by 12 seconds.
- Liv Introduces the All-New Langma, Already a Winner.
Just before the first stage of the Giro Rosa, Liv unveiled Team Sunweb’s new race bike and all-new on-road machine, Langma. After a media event, where the bike already captured the adoration from cycling publication editors and contributors, Langma now has a Women’s WorldTour stage win to its name.
The next race on the schedule for the women of Team Sunweb will be Le Course, by Le Tour de France on Thursday, July 20.
