Competing against the United States’ top triathlon hopefuls for the Paralympic Games, Liv Racing Collective athlete Allysa Seely finished second in the PTS2 category on Sunday.

Held at Prairie Springs Park in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, the Americas Paratriathlon Championships drew top-level athletes to compete for a spot on the USA Paralympic team. The race consisted of a 750-meter swim in Lake Andrea, a 20-kilometer bike through Pleasant Prairie and neighboring Kenosha, and a 5-kilometer run finishing in Prairie Springs Park.

Between the COVID-19 pandemic and dealing with illness, it had been nearly two years since Allysa Seely of the Liv Racing Collective entered a race. Over the past few months, Seely has been focused on gaining strength and fitness back in preparation for her return to competition. Completing the race and placing second was a confidence-inspiring step toward her bigger goals for the season.

“It was not the result I wanted, but it is a result I am proud of,” said Seely. “I knew I would be hard-pressed to walk away as the winner with losing a year of training time and only having a short time of full training load behind me. At the end of the race, I had an objective picture of where I fall against the best in the world, fear and uncertainty faded away and I am now able to move forward knowing what I need to do to be the athlete I want to be.”
