Van Dijk finished the 25.8km course in 33 minutes and 15 seconds, 6 seconds ahead of the second place finisher and 13 seconds ahead of teammate Lucinda Brand, who stood on the podium in third. Floortje Mackaij also rode a strong race to finish sixth in the competitive Dutch TT field. Van Dijk last took the National Championship title five years ago, and after close battles over the past few years is elated to wear the colors of the country’s flag again.
“The competition in the Netherlands is super high and a podium at the Nationals can be the same as a podium at the Worlds as well. That’s why this title means a lot to me,” said Van Dijk. “It was great to stand on the podium together with Lucinda, and also Floortje had a very good time trial. It shows how advanced this discipline is within the team and how high our level is at the moment.”
Team Sunweb athletes Pernille Mathiesen and Juliette Labous will take to the TT course Thursday to compete for National titles in Denmark and France, respectively. Liane Lippert will compete in the same discipline in Germany on Friday. National Championship road races will take place Saturday.
