CCC-Liv Team rider Marianne Vos sprinted to victory at Stage 2 of the OVO Energy Women’s Tour in Great Britain, moving into the overall lead of the six-day WorldTour stage race.

The 62.5km Stage 2 covered 25 laps of a 2.5km circuit at the Kent Cyclopark. Following a rainy first stage on Monday, which saw Vos finish the day fifth, racers enjoyed dry, sunny conditions in Kent.

The CCC-Liv Team was aggressive from the start. The squad worked to set up their team leader for the first intermediate sprint, which came at 10 laps, and Vos delivered by winning the first dash for bonus seconds on her Liv Langma Advanced SL team bike.

The rest of the race was highlighted by two additional intermediate sprints followed by the battle for the final sprint. The finishing straight was slightly uphill, and when Vos unleashed her sprint, no one could match it. The three-time road world champion beat Elizabeth Deignan of Great Britain to the line.

Bonus seconds at the intermediate sprint and the finish gave Vos a lead of 9 seconds over Deignan in the general classification. Dutch rider Amy Pieters is currently third, also at 9 second back.

One person who is sure to be proud following Vos's latest triumph is her father Henk. For more about Vos's appreciation about her father, check out our recent post on Instagram!

The OVO Energy Women’s Tour continues Wednesday with Stage 3 from Henley-on-Thames to Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire.
