Team Sunweb launched into the first stage of the Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour in Germany Monday with the goal of controlling the race from start to finish. They did, in glorious fashion. Ellen van Dijk captured every intermediate sprint to move into the lead for the sprint classification jersey, while it was Coryn Rivera who won the final sprint and her first victory of the season.

Monday started the first of seven stages of the Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour, an 82.5km race consisting of seven 12.2km laps. Each lap included a rise of 120m, including an uphill, cobbled finish line in the center of Schleusingen. Three intermediate sprints animated the race, allowing Team Sunweb to make the race more difficult for their competitors. The team setup Van Dijk perfectly for each sprint, securing valuable points towards the sprint classification jersey.

After seven laps, the team still had enough in the tank to lead Rivera into the technical finish sprint, where she won the battle for first aboard her Langma Advanced SL team bike and wearing her Liv Extima helmet.

“Today was an absolutely beautiful day of teamwork,” said Rivera. “From start to finish, we really came together for our goals today. First with delivering Ellen to the intermediate sprints for time bonuses, making the race hard at a crucial moment, and still having full energy to do an amazing lead out towards a tough cobbled uphill finish. Today the girls and I were hungry and ready, committed to the plan, and executed it to perfection. I’m really proud of what we accomplished today and grateful for the girls' hard work in the lead out. I couldn’t have pulled off this sweet victory without them and the staff behind the scenes.”

The Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour continues through June 3.
