Radka Kahlefeldt kicked off her 2019 season yesterday with a win at Ironman 70.3 Geelong in Australia.

After a week of sleepless nights with 13-month-old daughter Ruby leading into the race, Kahlefeldt lined up for the start anxious to test her form. She ended her spectacular 2018 season with a win at Ironman 70.3 Taupo in December.

“The first race of the season you never know where everyone is [with their] training and how you are going to feel,” said Kahlefeldt.

The athletes were greeted with perfect temperatures, flat water, and no wind which meant fast racing. Though Kahlefeldt led out of the water, the rest of the women’s field followed just seconds behind. Tight racing continued on the bike leg, where Kahlefeldt joined two other riders at the front aboard her Liv Avow Advanced Pro Triathlon bike. With a fast pace, the three athletes were able to pull away from the rest of the field and enter into T2 a little more than two minutes ahead of fourth place. Kahlefeldt was the first out of transition, but a quick bathroom stop at the two-kilometer mark set her back to third place with nearly a minute to make up over the remainder of the run. With four kilometers to go, Kahlefeldt reclaimed the lead and didn’t look back, finishing a minute ahead of second place.

“It is amazing to start the year with a win, I am super happy,” said Kahlefeldt.
