12 months ago, Allysa Seely crossed the finish line at ITU World Championships in the Netherlands. If she had settled for what the doctors told her, she would not have even been there. Just seven weeks prior, she was in the hospital recovering from six consecutive abdominal surgeries. Her story of recovery is inspiring, to say the least – she not only finished the race, but she also finished on the podium in second place. Still, Seely wasn’t satisfied.

“I was honored to stand on the podium at World Championships and represent the USA, but not hearing my national anthem lit a fire of motivation within me,” Seely wrote in her blog following the 2017 World Championships.

On Saturday, September 15, 2018, that fire was still burning. Seely crossed the finish line two minutes ahead of her nearest competition to claim her third World Championship title in Australia’s Gold Coast. With the fastest swim and run splits of the race and maintaining position on her Liv Avow Advanced Pro, Seely had much to smile about as she claimed the World Triathlon Grand Final banner at the line. Her victory was icing on the cake to a near-flawless season.

“It is incredible to now have a third World Championship title, it is something never dreamed or imagined and it is a really good step towards Tokyo because that is the end goal here,” said Seely.

After winning gold in Rio, Seely is already training for her next opportunity for Olympic glory in 2020.
