Meet Edurne Pasabán

Mountaineer, Adventurer, and Entrepreneur

San Sebastián, Spain

Edurne Pasabán was born in the Basque Country – an area in the western Pyrenees on the border of Spain and France known for its mountains and strong climbing tradition. From a young age, she was drawn to adventure. At 14, she took climbing classes and by 18 she took her first trip to the Himalayas.

In 2010, at the age of 36, Edurne became the first woman to climb the 14 highest peaks in the world (all over 8000m - 26,247ft - above sea level) in only 20 expeditions. It was a feat that required strong will and a firm focus on her goals.

As a mountaineer, cycling has always been an important part of Edurne’s training. In the 13 years since achieving her goal, biking has also become a source of joy, relaxation, and satisfaction. Now the Amiti E+ has opened up a new world, allowing her to connect to the things she loves the most: the mountain, family, and nature.

Edurne Biking

We caught up with Edurne to learn a little bit more about her adventurous life...

Why do you love to ride?

Edurne: For me, the bicycle has been the basis of training in my sports career. To this day, riding is my time to train and to be in contact with nature. Thanks to the bicycle we share many moments as a family, since I have a 5-year-old boy whose passion is mountain biking. My favorite part of the day is the feeling of satisfaction I have after cycling – and if I can share that moment with a friend and a beer, then it’s even better.

Who is your favorite person to ride with?

Edurne: My son. He is only five years old, but for how young he is we go out and do a lot of biking together. He prefers to go downhill, so I will ride my E-bike and tow him to the top of the hills so he can ride down. When it comes to training, I like to go out alone or with a group of friends.

What do you use your bike for the most?

Edurne: When I got started riding, at the age of 18, I raced triathlons. So, at first I was most passionate about road cycling. For a long time, the road bike was the basis of my training. But now, due to where I live, it’s more difficult for me to ride it. Now I will train mostly on my mountain bike. But the E-bike has really opened up a new world for me.

How does the E-bike complement your lifestyle?

Edurne: I use the E-bike a lot when riding with my son. I will take him to school on the E-bike, we will go to the climbing gym together by bike, errands around town, and I can use the E-bike to tow him up trails. I can also use the E-bike for training. I’ll ride the E-bike up the mountain and then access the peak by foot.

What’s next for you?

Edurne: Right now I don't have big goals in my sport. Maybe I'm in a different moment of life with a 5-year-old son. But, of course, I see my future in the mountains. I don't rule out returning to my activity later, although somehow I have never left it, since every year I do a small expedition. I see my future in the mountains and of course doing sports.
