After the TTT and three challenging stages at the Tour of Norway, Coryn Rivera of Team Sunweb secured the final step on the general classification podium with a second place finish Sunday.

Rivera’s third-place performance on Friday and seventh Saturday put her in striking distance of the top when stage three began. The day’s race would take place on the border between Sweden and Norway, covering a distance of 154km with mountain sprints, a 7km uphill gravel section and finishing with four local laps of a 5.2km finishing circuit. Team Sunweb rode a smart race, tucked inside the bunch until the initial breakaway group was caught before crossing back into Norway for the final circuit laps. The attacks began to fly on the finishing circuit, but nothing went clear and it came to a bunch sprint to the line where Rivera lost the win by half a bike length.

“Today was the last day and we went all in again,” said Rivera. “We had a few goals for the day and we pretty much accomplished all of them. First was the intermediate sprint where the girls set up a perfect lead out and I was able to pick up two seconds. Then as a whole team, we had to chase over the gravel section to close a big gap to a decent sized breakaway to be in contention for a stage win. We used and showed our strength as a team there and made the race hard and put us in the position to win the stage. In the local laps, we set up for the 2nd intermediate sprint where I picked up another second but was still off the GC podium. Lucinda and Floortje put in a million attacks to try and get away for the stage win but in the end, it came down to a sprint. After their hard work, the girls were still able to put me in position and I was able to sprint to 2nd place on the stage and the time bonus for that moved me back into 3rd on GC. Each and every one of us gave everything we had left today to go after our goals.”

In addition to Rivera’s strong finishes, the team’s performance earned them the win in the Team Classification. All the riders raced aboard their Liv Langma Advanced SL team bikes, wearing the Extima and Rev Liv helmets with Liv Performance Footwear.

Team Sunweb will compete in the Women’s WorldTour again at GP Plouay on 25 August.
