The 32-year-old Jackson, from Vermilion, Alberta, struck first in the time trial, finishing the 28km race in 39:58. Carrying the top form that saw her win a stage at the Simac Ladies Tour WorldTour race in the Netherlands last month, Jackson was unstoppable on the out-and-back course in Sainte-Georges, Quebec. She finished 43 seconds ahead of 2019 bronze medalist Marie-Soleil Blais, who took second.
"It’s always been my goal to win a national road championships and national time trial championship in Canada," Jackson said. "This year it just looked really possible for me to do that. I had been working on my position this year to gear up for the national championships. All that work and the fitness I gained in the tours with the team beforehand helped me show up with confidence and strong legs."
Two days later, Jackson collected her second national champion’s jersey. Riding her Langma Advanced SL Disc team bike, she put in another stellar performance, conquering a difficult 114km course featuring tough climbs and harsh winds.
"It was a really windy day, 25 kph winds, so I just used that to my advantage, knowing how to make everyone suffer in the wind just as much as me to make the group a little smaller and more manageable for when people started attacking me," Jackson said. "The course was also quite hard with hills. We got to a very small group before we entered the circuits, just about 15 of us, and before even the halfway point it was just me and another rider."
Indeed, the Liv Racing rider did it with style, attacking on her own and taking a hard-fought solo win at the line. She was part of an early 14-rider breakaway that was eventually whittled down to just her and two-time Pan American cyclocross champion Maghalie Rochette. Jackson made her move with 35km to go and held off the chasers to the end. Rochette ended up second, with Sara Poidevin taking the final podium placing. The main field finished more than seven minutes back.
"I was really happy to have my mom there," Jackson said. "When you win or you accomplish a big goal it’s so special and really important to share that with the people who have been super supportive of you. So I was just happy to have my biggest fan at the finish line of both these races."
