CCC-Liv has started strong in the first major stage race of 2020. The Giro Rosa began Friday with the team scoring seventh in the 16.8km team time trial. In a tough second stage on the road with two gravel sections, CCC-Liv placed five riders in the top-15, with Ashleigh Moolman Pasio leading the way in fifth.
Leading the team classification, CCC-Liv started the 142.2km third stage focused on working together as a team. Though the race started out hilly, a flat, windy section followed which saw the peloton come together ahead of the finale – a 700-metre climb with a 15 percent grade pitch. Marianne Vos was positioned well by her teammates at the base of the climb to follow quickly on the heels of a breakaway with five other riders. Vos powered past two other riders on her Liv Langma Advanced SL with CADEX wheels in the final meters to score the win by two seconds on the incredibly difficult finish.
Vos was rewarded with the green Mountain Jersey for her efforts on Sunday. Unfortunately, she was unable to hold onto the jersey after a hot stage four, where she finished 10th, just behind teammate Moolman Pasio.
In 2019, Vos racked up four stage victories and Moolman Pasio finished fourth in the general classification, so both riders will continue to push for points and wins over the remaining five days of racing.
