Gemma Sampson

Gemma Sampson joins us as a Liv ambassador, triathlete, accredited sports dietitian and performance nutritionist. She is a huge fan of Liv, which is demonstrated by her 4 Liv bikes (Avow, Envie, Avail and Langma) and can often be found in Giant Liverpool or out on their shop rides.

Gemma comes from a triathlon background. However, whilst training for Ironman Wales last year, she discovered time trialling, which will be her primary training focus for 2018.

Gemma is a sports dietitian, who specialises in performance nutrition for cyclists and triathletes, empowering cyclists and triathletes to fuel effectively during training and competition for optimal body composition and performance. She is keen to get more people to get outdoors, be active and healthier overall with their food, nutrition and lifestyle. She’s often jetting off around the world with her job, but her bike is never far behind!

As an accredited sports dietitian and performance nutritionist, Gemma wants to ensure women are fuelling themselves correctly to get them the best cycling results possible, whether it is losing weight, becoming fitter, stronger or training for a triathlon, cycling event or duathlon.

Gemma will be sharing her nutrition knowledge with female cyclists by hosting Liv Presents events and ride outs at Giant Liverpool, Giant Blackpool and Giant Blackburn in 2018.

Favorite place to rideIn the UK, I really like riding in Wales. The roads are quiet, there’s a good mixture of challenging climbs and fast flats plus the scenery is gorgeous. I always like having a destination to ride to when I’m out and there’s always a new road or route to discover!
Must-have cycling accessoryObviously I’m not going to get far without a bike, and having the right bike for the right type of riding is essential. I have four Liv bikes and use them all (almost) every week – the hybrid Avail on a daily basis for commuting in and out of town, the Envie road bike for general training, Avow TT bike for racing and time trialling and my new Langma is fantastic to climb and descend like a breeze.
When I am not ridingI’m always on the move! If I’m not on the bike I am either studying nutrition to keep up to date with the latest research, working with my athletes to help them towards their goals, making a mess in the kitchen (I love cooking and eating food) or out drinking a good coffee with friends. Bikes. Nutrition. Food. Coffee!
Life Goal: Having ticked an Ironman off my bucketlist and discovered a love of time trialling, this year I have two goals. Firstly I want to hone in my TT skills and am focusing on the Tour of Cambridge time trial in June. Secondly I want to become a stronger (and faster) climber so will be entering a sportive called La Purito in August which has over 5000m of climbing in 145km!
