Saturday’s Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race (Deakin University Elite Women’s Race) in Geelong marked the end of CCC-Liv’s Australian training tour. The team demonstrated measurable improvement from their 10-day training camp following Santos Tour Down Under, with Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio finishing just off the podium in fourth and Jeanne Korevaar taking the top prize in the youth classification.

The 113km Cadel Evans road race came just two days after Race Melbourne, a 63km circuit race where CCC-Liv Team was forced to play a tactical game without a true sprinter among them. It nearly worked, ending with three riders inside the top-ten and priming the team’s climbers for the hills that lay ahead on Saturday’s course.

With much of the peloton still bunched with 10km to the finish, Moolman-Pasio made her move on a 2.5km climb. Five riders joined her on the attack, and she was second to reach the top of the climb. On the descent, the eventual race winner joined and rode away from the small pack with one other rider. One final attack with 3km to go left Moolman-Pasio in a three-woman chase group, which she bested at the line to take fourth place. Shortly after, the peloton approached the line with Riejanne Markus and Korevaar in the mix to finish 11th and 12th, respectively. CCC-Liv rode their Liv Langma Advanced SL team bikes exclusively during the Australian race campaign.

“If I compare our last two races with the Santos Women's Tour Down Under, then I notice a real improvement,” said sports director Jeroen Blijlevens. “We have been able to train well and have become better individually and as a team.”

CCC-Liv Team will head back to Europe to prepare for the Spring Classics with a training camp in Girona, Spain.
