What are some of your favorite places to ride locally? | My favorite type of local ride is a mixed terrain ride, weaving in and out of single track, road, gravel, and secret byways! Finding new hidden gems and making new ways to connect familiar routes keeps things fresh and exciting. |
What is your specialty on the team? | Endurance mountain bike and gravel. |
What are some of your notable cycling career results and/or achievements? |
|
What is your favorite event on your calendar? | I'm most looking forward to Crusher in the Tushar because it has tons of climbing and it has a mountaintop finish! Also, Rule of Three because it's a mixed terrain event in my hometown. |
What's your favorite Liv bike? | Devote Advanced Pro because it is so versatile and can be fast on pavement/gravel but also handle single track for really varied adventures. |
What is your favorite Liv gear? | Energize Jacket because I put the hood over my helmet for rainy days and it keeps me warm and cozy like a cocoon! |
Why do you ride? How does cycling make you feel? | Riding time is my sacred time. I like putting work into it and seeing results. I like seeing progress from year to year, and using it to test my limits, make new friends, and see the world. |
When did you first realize you loved cycling? | Growing up around brothers who rode mountain bikes and cyclocross, I was always familiar with cycling. However, when my own friends in the running world invited me to ride I first started to feel cycling could be my own thing too. Getting dropped in the first 30 seconds of my first cyclocross race was when I really fell in love with it. I thought, there is a whole lot more to this sport that I have to learn! I want to figure this out. |
Is there a woman in your life who has played an important role in your cycling journey? | Not one, but many. The friends with whom I have shared adventures and misadventures. The ones who've bushwhacked with me, ridden in sub zero temps, climbed mountains, made my legs burn. |
What do you wish you knew when you were starting out as a cyclist? | There are techniques and skills to help you get better progressively. You don't have to just throw yourself into the deep end and hope for the best! |
Who inspires you? | People who are dedicated to their craft and constantly challenging themselves to learn new skills and perspectives. It's easy to get into your routine and enjoy that comfort; those who willingly and intentionally push beyond that inspire me. |
What does the future of cycling look like to you? | New disciplines and events will continue to emerge and trends will shift. Bikes will look different and probably become even more electronic! But the core value of cycling will always be the same: a means to finding yourself, making connections with other people, and seeing the world. |
How do you hope to have an impact on the next generation of cyclists? | I hope to lead by example to inspire the next generation, and to teach and coach via my business Crystal Anthony Coaching. |
What have been the biggest barriers for you so far in your cycling journey, and how have you navigated/ overcome them? | Fear of going fast down hill has always been a barrier. Friends and others have helped with giving tips and sessioning with me so that I have better skills to build my confidence. It will always be a challenge I have to work on, but it gets better with dedicated work and help. |
