|
| What is your favorite event (race or non-race) on your calendar? Why | Leadville 100 MTB! I have a deep family history with this race. My parents have been attending since the late 90's and it was my first bike race back in 2016. After I finished that year it lit a fire in me, and the rest is history :) |
| What's your favorite Liv bike? | The Pique! |
| What is your favorite Liv gear? | I love all of the liv apparel! The color schemes are always so vibrant and easy to spot. |
| Why do you ride? | Cycling gives me a sense of freedom and confidence that I've never had before. My favorite types of rides are on trails that are not specifically made for bikes--ones that may include a bit of hiking and are typically an adventure to get to. Out there I experience a sort of appreciation for my health and life in a way that I haven't been able to feel anywhere else. |
| When did you first realize you loved cycling? | I didn't realize I loved cycling until I was a junior in college! At the time I was fully immersed in academics and was looking for an athletic outlet to fill my spare time. I picked up a mountain bike in 2016 and crashed on almost every single ride for an entire year! It was really motivating for me to keep picking the bike up again and slowly but surely making progress on every ride. |
| What does the future of cycling look like to youhat does the future of cycling look like to you? | The future of cycling has more support for women on bikes! Companies like Liv embody this sort of dream. |
| What do you wish you knew when you were starting out as a cyclist? | Proper bike fit should be a priority, learning basic bike maintenance is important, and most importantly, cycling is meant to be enjoyable and doesn't need to be overly expensive to get started. |
| Who inspires you? | Kristin Armstrong is a huge inspiration for me. In both cycling and in life she is ambitious, driven and does not settle. The way that she approaches racing is so thoughtful and with such a strong attention to detail. She doesn't settle for anything less than the most from herself. |
| Is there a woman in your life who has played an important role in you cycling journey? | My mom has always been a really important role model in my life--especially in regard to athletics and cycling. She has been running and racing in endurance mountain bike events for as long as I can remember. When I first started riding she was my training partner! She taught me how to fuel properly, how to pace myself, and she gave me the confidence to set and pursue ambitious goals. |
| How do you hope to have an impact on the next generation of cyclists? | I want to show people that you can set ambitious goals and with the right mindset and team around you, you can achieve them. |
| What have been the biggest barriers for you so far in your cycling journey, and how have you navigated/ overcome them? | Prior to becoming a cyclist I was an ultra marathon runner. I stopped running due to severe foot pain that didn't seem to bother me on the bike, however, a few years into my cycling career the pain started to creep back in and it's been a challenge to find a solution. After 20+ different pairs of shoes, and with so many different bike fit and cleat orientations, I think I've finally found a solution, but it's taken a lot of time and so much mental energy to get it figured out! If I were to give any advice to someone facing a similar challenge is that you should not give up. Keep researching, keep trying, and keep asking for help. There's always a solution, but it may not be in the form that you originally expected it. |
