Vos Wins Trofeo Alfredo Binda!
The 131-kilometer race marked the third of the Women’s WorldTour. Punctuated by difficult climbs and several breakaway attempts, the bunch stayed together until the final ascent just 10km from the finish. Thanks to the work of Jeanne Korevaar and Riejanne Markus who responded efficiently to accelerations in the pack, Ashleigh Moolman Pasio, and Vos could remain fresh until the end. Both CCC-Liv riders made it into the lead group of eight that consisted of deep talent. With strength in their legs, Moolman Pasio took up the front of the pack and kept a fast pace to hold off the chase and protect Vos for the final sprint. In the end, Vos took the sprint in commanding fashion aboard her Langma Advanced SL team bike.
CCC-Liv sports director Jeroen Blijlevens spoke highly of the team’s efforts post-race: ““This is an amazing victory for the entire team. The team tactics have been executed to perfection today.”
“I had hoped that I could take part and I felt good, but I didn’t expect a victory straightaway,” said Vos. “It is rather nice to be successful here. Hopefully, the victory gives a boost in morale for the important weeks that are ahead of us.”
Vos now sits second in the Women’s WorldTour standings with several important races in Belgium on the horizon, including Driedaagse Brugge-De Panne on Thursday, March 28, Gent-Wevelgem on Sunday, March 31, and Tour of Flanders on Sunday, April 7.
