The Women’s WorldTour came to a close Tuesday at the Tour of Guangxi and with it, a newly crowned champion. Marianne Vos sprinted to a third-place finish aboard the Liv Langma Advanced SL, earning more than enough points to surge ahead of Annemiek van Vleuten to take the title.
Vos tallied 19 wins in 2019, making it her most successful season since 2014. The 32-year-old’s most notable victories of the year were scored at Giro Rosa, Ladies Tour of Norway and La Course by Le Tour de France. Although she was unable to grab the win in China on Tuesday, Vos added a new accolade to her long list of accomplishments. Since the Women’s WorldTour began in 2016, this is the first time the Dutchwoman has earned the overall title.
“It is a very nice way to finish the road season,” said CCC-Liv sports director Jeroen Blijlevens. “She has also earned this jersey, because she has collected the points in various competitions, in sprints as well as in the most difficult races."
Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio also ended her season on a high-note, winning the mountain classification in the Tour of Guangxi.
The team now heads to Taiwan to compete in the KOM Challenge.
