The race in southern Limburg is notable for its challenging climbs along the 126.8km course, the most significant of which take place on the final circuit. Racers would climb the Geulhemmerberg, Bemelerberg, and Cauberg three times each before the finish line. CCC-Liv set out to make the race difficult and position Ashleigh Moolman Pasio and Vos at the front. However, an equipment failure at a crucial moment for Vos meant she would have to change bikes and fight her way back to the group. She arrived with the leaders at the base of the Cauberg just as a break was occurring at the front. Even with the added challenge, Vos was able to out-sprint a small chase group and finish just 10 seconds behind the two breakaway leaders.
“Marianne and Ashleigh, in particular, raced an amazing Amstel Gold Race and participated well,” said sports director Jeroen Blijlevens. “Due to some setbacks, they also had to do more work than we would have hoped for, which might have taken us slightly more fresh into the final and which could have led to more resistance towards the competition. But that doesn't count. A third place in this classic is a very nice reward.”
CCC-Liv’s efforts in the Spring Classics aboard the Liv Langma Advanced SL continue Wednesday with La Flèche Wallonne Féminine in Belgium.
