Vodickova Powers to the Podium at Challenge Kanchanaburi!

Teams/Riders

Liv triathlete Radka Vodickova made her second podium appearance in one week at the inaugural Challenge Kanchanaburi half Ironman distance triathlon, held in Thailand on Sunday, October 23. Although the race had a somber tone after the death of Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the events were allowed to take place thanks to the positive impact of triathlon in the region.

Vodickova started the race strong and was first out of the water by a three second margin over two other competitors, Robin Pomeroy of the USA and Amelia Watkinson of New Zealand. Watkinson, who has been living in Thailand, seemed to be used to the heat and hilly bike course and pulled away quickly on the second leg of the race. Unfortunately, Vodickova suffered a punctured tube on course that cost her precious time.

Significantly behind first place finisher Watkinson, Vodickova raced a women’s best run split of 1:32:01 which put her in 3rd place on the day.
