Out of the water, Kahlefeldt was second by just 39 seconds and easily made up the difference in T1 and into the bike leg of the race. Aboard her Avow Advanced, she kept a steady pace on the 90km out and back without losing sight of her nearest competitor – Caroline Steffen. The pair continued their battle, nearly lockstep with one another until the 7km mark when Kahlefeldt began to pull away. She solidified her lead by continuing to distance herself and finished a whopping 2:36 ahead of Steffen.
Just one year ago, Davao marked Kahlefeldt’s return to racing three months after the birth of daughter Ruby. She won that race and continued on to have one of the most successful triathlon seasons of her career. Kahlefeldt looks ahead to another busy season with her sights set on Ironman 70.3 World Championships, which will take place in September in Nice, France.
