Radka Kahlefeldt added another gold medal to her long list of 2019 podium finishes at Ironman 70.3 Astana Sunday in Kazakhstan.
Kahlefeldt had a powerful swim, exiting the water first with nearly a minute and half lead over her nearest competitor. Switching to her Avow Advanced Pro, Kahlefeldt fell behind three other strong cyclists over the course of the 90.1km course. After the two-loop course, she entered T2 2:48 back of the lead. Kahlefeldt set out on the 21.1km one-lap, flat run course with a purpose and quickly caught the competition. She posted the day’s fastest run split by a wide margin: over 4 minutes faster than anyone else.
This was Kahlefeldt’s first time racing Ironman 70.3 Astana, which ranked at the top of 2018 Ironman Athlete Choice Awards in overall satisfaction. Situated in Kazakhstan’s capital city, the race centered around the Ishim river and highlighted the city’s futuristic architecture as a backdrop.
“It’s nice to win here at Ironman 70.3 Astana,” said Kahlefeldt. “I really enjoyed the race, the Kazakhs’ warm hospitality, and the race organization was five-star!”
