Ellen Van Dijk Wins the Healthy Ageing Tour!
After a first place finish in the opening time trial stage of the Healthy Ageing Tour, Ellen Van Dijk was able to remain on top of the leader board thanks to impressive teamwork throughout the five-day tour. Together, Team Sunweb secured three stage podiums in addition to Van Dijk’s TT win, including third in the team time trial, third for Van Dijk in Stage 3 and second for teammate Lucinda Brand in Stage 5.
Sunday’s 11th place finish for Van Dijk secured her general classification victory; it would be her third time winning her “home tour” in the Netherlands (formally known as the Energiewacht Tour). The final stage consisted of 8 laps of a 15.1km circuit. The team rode well aboard their Liv Envie Advanced Pro team bikes, pushing to the head of the bunch right off the gun and maintaining position through the final bunch sprint.
“We are really happy to bring the yellow home,” said Van Dijk. “The team did an incredible job all week, everyone really sacrificed themselves for the jersey, it was unbelievable to see. It was also great to see our two young girls [Juliette Labous and Liane Lippert] riding so well, this is their first stage race in the elite category and it was incredible to see them riding at the front all week. This jersey isn’t mine, it belongs to the whole team.”
The win for Van Dijk was particularly sweet coming after a few team victories at Women’s WorldTour races where she played a key role in Team Sunweb’s success. The action continues this weekend with the Amstel Gold Race in the Netherlands and Coryn Rivera in the leader’s jersey.
