Australian champion sprints to final stage win to secure GC title in dominant performance

Liv AlUla Jayco rider Mackenzie Coupland delivered a standout performance at the Vuelta a Extremadura Femenina, sprinting to victory on the final stage to secure the overall general classification title. Racing the all-new EnviLiv Advanced SL—custom painted to celebrate her Australian road national championship earlier this season—Coupland capped off a dominant weekend for the team.

The 20-year-old broke away in the closing kilometres of the 139km final stage to Jaraíz de la Vera before out-sprinting her lone rival to take the stage victory. The win sealed an impressive sweep of the race’s key classifications, with Coupland also claiming the overall GC, points classification, and youth classification.

The decisive stage saw aggressive racing from start to finish. A small lead group formed late in the race, featuring three Liv AlUla Jayco riders: Coupland, Talia Appleton, and Sidney Swierenga. With strength in numbers, the team launched a series of attacks that allowed Coupland to break clear and contest the stage victory.

Behind her teammate, Appleton sprinted to third place on the stage, securing third overall in the general classification, while Swierenga also finished among the top riders to round out an exceptional team performance.

“It was a hard stage today with quite long climbs one after another,” Coupland said. “It was really nice being part of this team again and with such strong riders we were able to be aggressive in the race today. We had many cards to play and it definitely worked in our favour.”

“It obviously feels amazing to win. Winning is so hard and doesn’t come around often, but I’m really proud of not only my ride, but every single one of the girls. Everyone played their role amazingly. The Australian jersey gives me a lot of self-confidence and I definitely felt it helped me keep pushing on.”

Coupland’s stage win and overall victory mark a milestone moment for the young Australian champion and a strong debut result for the new EnviLiv Advanced SL.
