CCC-Liv Scores Virtual Victories During Zwift’s Tour for All!

Friday, May 8, 2020

While the UCI Women’s WorldTour races are postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic, teams like CCC-Liv are diving in to virtual racing with online cycling platform Zwift. The “Tour for All” features a 5-day pro stage race for women and men as well as a 5-stage charity ride/race event to benefit Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in response to COVID-19.

Zwift’s Tour for All began Monday, May 4 and, as the name implies, it is a virtual event for all levels of indoor cyclists and runners. Tour for All was created as an event where everyone can come together to support Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) global emergency response to COVID-19. Zwift donated $125,000 to MSF at the start of the Tour and will donate another $125,000 when 250,000 people complete one stage of the online event from now until May 30.

The Tour for All professional race series kicked off the month-long event with a five-stage virtual tour May 4-8. The race is the first of its kind with a stacked roster of UCI pro cycling teams set to compete on a series of challenging stages on back-to-back days. The race is a team event where riders collect points for top 25 finishes on each stage and extra points for the final queen stage. CCC-Liv brings top riders to the event with the goal of an overall victory and stage wins.

After Friday's fifth and final stage, CCC-Liv had racked up four victories. Marianne Vos was the first to take the win on Monday in a sprint finish – it was her first online race. Ashleigh Moolman Pasio, who began training and racing with Zwift frequently during the coronavirus lockdown in Spain, put her experience to use to take home two consecutive victories on stages two and three, followed by another commanding solo win on stage five atop L'Alpe du Zwift. Vos also scored podium spots on stage two and four with third and fourth, respectively. Pauliena Rooijakkers gained valuable points for the team by finishing eighth on stage three and fourth on stage five. CCC-Liv finished third overall in the team classification.

“It’s great to be able to talk to my teammates on the Discord App," said Moolman Pasio. "It’s as close as we can get to the real world, so taking a lot of motivation from this. We’re just happy to have the support from our fans. Thank you for watching and tuning in and cheering us along.”
