Brand Finishes Second at Dutch CX National Championships!
During her first race in Team Sunweb colors on Sunday, Lucinda Brand battled her way to the podium and secured a silver medal at the Dutch National Cyclocross Championship.
After a handful of podium and top-ten finishes so far this winter, including a second place finish at European National Championships, Brand’s first full cyclocross season could already be called a successful one. But, Sunday’s race is sure to be one of the highlights.
Brand bested cyclocross specialist Sophie de Boer, who currently sits second overall in UCI rankings, in a dual for second that spanned the majority of the race. Only former teammate Marianne Vos (WM3 Pro Cycling) was able to stay in front of the pack. The technical corners of the Sint-Michielgestel course proved to suit Vos and she road to her sixth National Championship title in cyclocross. Reigning CX World Champion Thalita de Jong did not challenge Brand and finished the race in fifth.
Brand, who wore the Liv Rev helmet, now sets her sights on the 2017 UCI Cyclocross World Championships to be held January 28-29 in Luxembourg.
Also competing at National Championships on Sunday was 19-year-old Juliette Labous of France, who rode to an impressive second place finish.
