Ashleigh Moolman Pasio kicked off South African National Championships week with a win Thursday in the time trial. It was her fifth time winning the SA ITT title, completing the 20km course in 28 minutes and 24 seconds, nearly one minute faster than her nearest competition. Moolman Pasio last secured the ITT national championship in 2017.
“The plan was to have a quick start, because the road went slightly uphill there,” said Moolman Pasio. “I continued to give everything I had in me and am very happy with this success.”
After wearing the SA championship jersey for CCC-Liv in 2019, Moolman Pasio set out to defend her title on the road Saturday. The 104km road course consisted of rolling terrain without any challenging climbs to set the climbing specialist apart. With temperatures soaring near 38 degrees Celsius through the weekend at Swadini Resort in Northern South Africa, Moolman Pasio waited until the last 10km of the race to launch a break but was caught by a small group heading to the line. In an uphill sprint to the finish, she pulled ahead to take the win aboard her Liv Langma Advanced SL. Moolman Pasio's bikes are equipped with CADEX disc and four-spoke (ITT) and CADEX 42 (road).
“It is great that, when the season starts, I will be able to show the South African colours both in the time trial and on the road,” said Moolman Pasio.
CCC-Liv’s road season kicks off at the end of the month with Omloop Het Niewsblad in Belgium.
