2017 UCI CX World Championships Preview
This weekend, hundreds of riders from around the world will descend on Bieles, Luxembourg to compete in the UCI Cyclocross World Championships. The under-23 women’s category and elite women will both race on Saturday, January 28.
Three Liv-sponsored athletes will compete on Saturday. Lucinda Brand of Team Sunweb will make an effort to join the lead pack for the Netherlands after multiple podium finishes in her debut CX season. Brand will compete against favorites and compatriots Marianne Vos and Sophie de Boer for the top spot. Also competing in the women’s elite field is Japanese athlete/ambassador Waka Takeda. Takeda also competed in last week’s Hoogerheide World Cup race in preparation for this weekend’s main event.
Mijn Bad Liv-Giant rider Annemarie Worst (the Netherlands) has become a lead contender for the women’s U23 race after two top-five finishes in the elite women's category at the most recent World Cup events.
The racers will likely have a slippery course to deal with Saturday. After practicing on a snow-covered track, conditions may worsen as the snow is expected to turn to mud as the day warms during the race. The course is 3200 meters (about 2 miles) long, providing a plethora of technical features mixed with off-camber and rolling terrain.
