For the past 3 years, members of Liv Camden Team Liv club have organised a cycling trip, planning everything from routes, hotels booking and hiring a support van. Previously they’ve cycled to Paris, Amsterdam, the Isle of Wight and Yorkshire.
This year, a member of the team, Bianca Fernandez-Clark, volunteered to organise a 3-day ride from London to Brussels. Unfortunately, this trip had to be cancelled because of the travel restrictions to both Belgium and France. Instead, they organised a UK-version, riding from London to Portsmouth, around the Isle of Wight and back.
Day 1: Cycled from London to Portsmouth (80 miles)
Day 2: Cycled the perimeter of Isle of Wight (62 miles)
Day 3: Option to cycle back from Portsmouth to London (80 miles)
19 Liv Camden riders of all different abilities and ages split in 4 groups. The groups were split according to different speeds to ensure everyone was paired with similar riders, Liv Camden is a very inclusive club so there's a place for everyone! They had 2 faster pace groups, one medium and one social. Ride leaders (Bianca F, Bianca J, Debi and Antonia) had the role to lead their groups safely and all riders supported each other. Their support van assisted with mechanicals along the way.
The weekend was filled with 'adventures' as the route mistakenly took our riders to the wrong ferry port, and with very tight schedule the ladies frantically made it to Isle of Wight - eventually - although they were split and arrived in different parts of the island and at different times - all adding to the fun!
The weather in the Isle of Wight was stunning and most of our riders went for a dip in the sea before embarking themselves in more cycling adventures and tackling all the hills. For a few of the members of the team, it was the longest ride they’d ever done or for some, the most challenging due to the elevation. Everyone however completed the ride together with the support from other members of the team and they loved every minute.
