“Wide gearing and even wider tyres for a comfortable ride”

Freelance writer and bike tester, Katherine Moore, tested the Avail Advanced 1 on behalf of BikeRadar.

She described the bike as “A comfortable and stable ride to hit the endurance road bike brief”, highlighting some of the Avail’s best traits as “Smooth over rough ground; wide-ranging gearing; good cornering grip; adjustable reach; hidden mudguard mounts”.

The Avail is Liv’s endurance road bike, the women’s specific equivalent to the Giant Defy. Moore summarised the Avail as “A more relaxed geometry for long days in the saddle, a wide gear range for tackling more challenging climbs, chunky semi-slick tyres and hidden mudguard mounts all place the carbon-framed bike as a great choice for everyday riders”.

The Avail has a compact frame design consisting of a slanted top tube and smaller front triangle that improves the stiffness to weight ratio.

Moore tested the Avail around her home town, from the wide moorland tarmac to the rolling country lanes in East Devon. Riding in spring time, she experienced a mixture of weather conditions consisting of wet, dry and windy.

The Avail runs 700x32c Gavia Fondo 1 tyres. These grippy tyres allows the Avail to perform on a mixture of road surfaces in wet and dry conditions. Moore writes “With such wide tyres and low tyre pressures, as well as the low-profile file tread, rougher roads and back lanes are smoothed out wonderfully on the Avail”.

Overall, Moore awarded the Avail a sound 3.5 /5 rating.
