How to Charge a Liv E-Bike Battery

Simple Steps for Charging your Liv EnergyPak Battery

Charging an E-bike is simple, but there are a few things you can do to increase battery life. These tips will optimize the performance and lifespan of your EnergyPak battery.

Checking the Battery Level

You can find out how much battery charge you have left in two places on the E-bike.

  1. On your handlebar’s RideControl system. Depending on your RideControl System, you’ll be able to see the charge level in LED lights or the digital display while riding.
  2. On the EnergyPak itself. After removing the battery, press the button on the battery. LED lights should light up, showing the battery level.

Charging the Battery

Liv offers two types of chargers for charging your EnergyPak battery:

Smart Charger: Recharging batteries quickly is essential for getting back out to play in the great outdoors. The 6A smart charger, compatible with the newest downtube EnergyPaks, is the fastest way to charge. It offers lightning-fast results, boosting the EnergyPak to over 60% of capacity within 90 minutes.

The Smart Charger can also extend the life of the battery. When EnergyPaks have been charged more than 500 cycles, the charger uses a lower voltage that brilliantly extends late battery life.

Standard Charger: The 4A is compatible with most Liv EneryPak batteries. It’s small and lightweight, so it’s easy to carry.

Charging the EnergyPak Battery on the Bike: Remove the cover and plug the Smart or Standard Charger directly into the port above the SyncDrive Motor.

Charging the EnergyPak Battery at Home: Remove the battery from your E-bike. Connect the adapter cable to the slot on your EnergyPak battery. Connect the other end of the adapter cable to your Smart or Standard charger.

While charging, the LED light on the CHARGER will be red. The light on the ENERGYPAK BATTERY will blink red. When fully charged, the LED light on the CHARGER will turn green. The light on the ENERGYPAK BATTERY will turn off completely.

Hibernate Mode

Sometimes when you purchase an E-bike from the bike store, it will be in “hibernate mode.” You can determine if an EnergyPak batter is in hibernate by pushing the energy level check button. The LED’s of the EnergyPak will not light up. To wake your battery up from hibernate mode, you can use the following steps:

  1. Plug an active charger into the EnergyPak.
  2. Unplug the charger from the EnergyPak.
  3. The EnergyPak is now out of hibernate mode. When you push the energy level check button, the LEDs will light up.
  4. You’re ready to ride!

PRO TIPS:

  • It is best to avoid temperature extremes, both while riding and charging. Charging below 0°C or above 40°C (32°F/104 °F) can lead to insufficient charging and harm the battery life cycle.
  • When you remove the battery to store it, make sure it is in a safe, climate-controlled space. You should not store the battery while it is empty or has a very low charge.
  • If the bike is not used for a longer period (one month or more), it is best to remove the battery from the bike and store it at 60% of its capacity (3 out of 5 charging LEDs).
  • When storing check every month to see if at least one LED is still blinking. Charge when needed, at least every 3 months. Failing to do so could void the warranty.
  • When charging the battery, make sure it is in a dry location. Also be sure that the EnergyPak and charger are in a place where they won’t cause a fire.
