Allysa Seely of the Liv Racing Collective made a winning return to international racing on Saturday, claiming gold at the Paratriathlon World Cup in Magog, Quebec, Canada. Racing on the all-new Avow Advanced SL for the bike portion, Seely finished with a time of 1:26:01 in the Women's PTS2 category, securing the victory in a race that came down to the final second.
Marking her 2025 season debut and a major step in her ongoing recovery from injury setbacks, she approached the race with intention and purpose. "The first race of the season always brings nerves and excitement," Seely said. "This was a great race and course to work through those before getting into bigger races through the rest of the season." Seely's preparation was not just about getting the results, but also about testing her body and rebuilding confidence as she returned to competition. "I am still working back from injury, so preparation wasn't as specific as it would normally be for me," she explained. "There has been a lot of focus on healthy movement patterns and a good base to start building from."
Despite the humid summer heat and uncertainty before the start, Seely trusted her training and mindset. "I was pretty unsure of how it was going to go. I am not as far along in the process of being back to top form as I would hope, but my goals were to go out, have fun, and focus on the work I have been putting in." One significant moment for Seely was simply being back in Magog. "Being back in Magog was pretty exciting, as it was one of the first World Cups I ever raced many, many years ago."
Coming off a bronze medal win at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Seely starts this year with another World Cup title in her decorated career and leaves the event feeling satisfied with both her performance and the progress she's made. "I achieved everything I needed to for the day, and things can only trend upwards from here."
Next up, Seely will head to the World Paratriathlon Series in Montreal, Canada, on July 19.
