Liv: What motivates you to ride?
Jen: I love cycling for the sake of cycling, but I am super competitive and always focused on improving. I feel like I could always be faster, stronger or have better endurance, so that keeps me going. I’ve recently gotten into triathlons, and did my first 70.3 in September. I would like to do a few more next year, so that’s been keeping me focused!
Liv: How long have you had this bike?
Jen: I purchased this bike at the end of 2021.
Liv: What does this bicycle mean to you?
Jen: It’s a way to connect with others and explore new areas. During Covid, my friends and I spent many sunny weekends exploring new cycling routes. Fondos and triathlons have also given me something to focus on - I’m super goal oriented as well as competitive - and a way to step out of my comfort zone and try new things.
Liv: How long have you been riding on a consistent basis?
Jen: I started cycling in 2019 after a running injury. My physiotherapist cleared me to ride the recumbent bike at the gym. Instead I dusted off a bike I had bought from a friend and my sister, some friends showed me some of the popular bike rides and convinced me to do the mediofondo with them in 2019. After completing that on a hybrid bike - complete with a rack on the back - and wearing running shoes, I figured it was time for a road bike.
Liv: What age did you learn how to ride a bike?
Jen: I was a late learner - I didn’t learn to ride a bike until I was 8!
Liv: What do you do for work/school/etc?
Jen: I work in tech, selling technical consulting services.
Liv: What's your favourite place(s) to ride?
Jen: I love heading out to the Fraser Valley and riding through Derby Reach, down through Crescent and White Rock Beach and along 0 Avenue. I also really enjoy Horseshoe Bay and the Demo Forest.
Liv: What's your favourite style/kind of riding?
Jen: I love long road rides, exploring new routes, and anywhere with rolling hills or long stretches to just go fast!
