Vos, riding her Liv Langma Advanced SL, won Friday’s 131km Stage 2 from Mysen to Askim in spectacular form, attacking on a climb with 6km to go and holding off the sprinters to take the victory.
“The course was fairly easy for a long time, but the three local laps were technical, narrow and slightly rolling,” explained CCC-Liv sports director Jeroen Blijlevens. “The finish was not ideal for a sprint for Marianne, hence this tactic. However, the difference with the peloton was minimal. The team blocked well in the chasing group. Marianne just made it.”
Before the finishing circuit CCC-Liv Team was aggressive with their tactics, which helped set up their leader for the finale. With 23km to go, Jeanne Korevaar joined a break, which was eventually caught. Vos then tried to make a move with 13km to go, and then finally launched the move that stuck with 6km to go. She got to the front of the field on a technical descent, then attacked on a climb.
Vos now holds a narrow lead over fellow Dutch rider Lorena Wiebes, who won the first stage. The race finishes Sunday in Halden.
