Introducing the 3rd generation Langma range.

With cutting-edge frame designs and innovative construction techniques, these are the most powerful Langma bikes yet. Dive into our testing methodology and discover the impressive results in weight, stiffness, efficiency, and aerodynamics.

WEIGHT COMPARISON

While it might seem straightforward, the weight of a frameset can be quite subjective. It all hinges on what parts are considered part of the frameset. Liv defines a frameset as follows:

  • Size medium, painted and decaled production frame
  • Painted production fork (uncut)
  • Seatpost with internal seatpost clamp or ISP with clamp/hardware
  • Front and rear derailleur hanger/clamps
  • Expander, top cap, headset and spacers
  • All production hardware (water bottle bolts, etc.)

STIFFNESS COMPARISON

Stiffness was assessed using industry-standard protocols with size medium framesets. Liv tested both pedaling and torsional stiffness with the corresponding fork in place. This provides a far more accurate measure of how a bicycle will perform in real-world conditions and helps ensure that our testing procedures translate into performance gains that can be felt on the road.

Our testing determined how much the complete frameset flexed torsionally under load, with each frame locked at the rear dropouts and lateral force applied to the fork. Higher frame stiffness means better cornering and response to rider input.

Despite being significantly lighter, the all-new Langma Advanced SL offers a 2.50% increase in pedaling stiffness and a 6.75% increase in torsional stiffness over the previous generation.

Most of the gains in stiffness come from modified sections of the head tube, down tube, and bottom bracket area. The increased frame stiffness results in better power transmission, allowing the rider to reach and maintain higher speeds with less effort.

EFFICIENCY COMPARISON

By improving stiffness and decreasing weight, the new Langma Advanced SL significantly boosts its overall efficiency (stiffness-to-weight ratio). These advancements translate into a more responsive and agile ride, allowing riders to experience quicker acceleration, better handling, and sustained speeds with less effort.

Whether climbing steep hills or sprinting on flat roads, the enhanced stiffness-to-weight ratio ensures that every pedal stroke is effectively converted into forward momentum, providing a competitive edge and a superior riding experience.

At Liv, we’re always looking for ways to help you ride faster and smoother. Our latest Langma takes aerodynamic performance to the next level, building on the innovations of its predecessor.

The previous generation Langma introduced a more aerodynamic frameset with new truncated ellipse tubing in key areas. This time, we’ve taken it even further. Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and extensive wind-tunnel testing, we developed new airfoil sections that lower drag more effectively across a wider range of angles compared to traditional teardrop-shaped frames.

We made significant aerodynamic improvements to the down tube, seat post, and fork. And that’s not all—the redesigned Liv Contact SLR flared handlebar and the new CADEX Max 40 WheelSystem also contribute, resulting in a total gain of 12.57 watts over the previous 2021 Langma Advanced SL 0.

To ensure optimal performance in real-world conditions, we designed the aerodynamic flow around the down tube with standard 22-ounce water bottles. All these refinements were meticulously tested at the GST wind tunnel in Immenstaad, Germany.

For the most accurate results, we used a dynamic mannequin that replicates real-world riding conditions, unlike the static mannequins often used by other brands. This approach gives a true picture of how the Langma performs when you’re out on the road, pedaling hard.

Our testing involved wind speeds of 24 mph (40 kph) in a controlled environment, with yaw angles ranging from -20 to +20 degrees. With the dynamic mannequin, spinning wheels, and a moving drivetrain, we achieved the most precise aerodynamic analysis possible. This helped us perfect the new Langma frameset and fine-tune the entire system, including the OverDrive Aero steerer tube and cockpit components.

The result? A bike that cuts through the wind, giving you the competitive edge you deserve.
