Marianne Vos crossed the finish line first at Sunday’s Cyclocross World Cup race in Pont-Château, France, taking her fourth World Cup victory for the season and solidifying the World Cup overall title.

The race began fast, which all the riders bunched together. A crash in the third lap caused CCC-Liv Team’s U23 rider Inge van der Heijden to fall behind the lead pack. She would still finish in the top-10 overall and third in her classification. Vos pushed to the front and pulled away with two other riders. In the end, the battle was between Vos and Denise Betsema (Marlux – Bingoal, the Netherlands), but with one decisive move in the last lap, Vos was able to create a gap on her competitor and crossed the finish with an eight-second lead. With just one World Cup left on the calendar, no one can challenge Vos for the overall victory.

"Winning the World Cup was not a goal prior to the season, but it became one,” said Vos. “In the run-up to today, I was not much pre-occupied with it; I just wanted to perform well here. Winning the classification here is nice. I did not have this prize yet."

Hoogerheide CX World Cup will take place in the Netherlands on January 27, but now Vos’ eye is on the next prize: CX World Championships, which will be held February 2-3 in Bogense, Denmark.
