For the third day in a row, Team Sunweb has proved they are in control of the race at the Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour in Germany. On Wednesday, Coryn Rivera captured her second stage win and third podium in as many days.
Stage 3 of Lotto Thüringen was the first day that didn’t involve multiple laps on a short course. The route totaled 131km with 1680m of climbing, starting and finishing in the town of Schleiz. The day included multiple breaks, with Team Sunweb women represented in all the major moves.
As the race approached the final kilometers, Lucinda Brand went clear in a two-rider breakaway that managed to stretch out a one minute gap on the rest of the group. But just inside the final 10km, Brand was reeled back in – which changed the strategy to a bunch sprint finish and the focus to Rivera. With 1km to go, Brand made the leading move with Ellen van Dijk and Rivera in tow. Around the final corner into the finish, van Dijk was able to deliver a perfect setup for Rivera to seal the win at the line.
“The girls did an awesome job today and I’m super grateful that they believe in me and ride for me in the sprints,” said Rivera.
“It’s brilliant to take another stage win after a great stage by the whole team,” said Team Sunweb coach Hans Timmermans. “We are proving to be really strong here. We owned the race from start to finish and really went for it on the hilly part of the stage launching attack after attack.”
