Allysa Seely Wins ITU World Paratriathlon Yokohama
Allysa Seely continued her flawless season on Saturday, powering to a first place finish at the ITU World Paratriathlon Series in Yokohama, Japan.
Coming off a big win at the Gold Coast Triathlon, Seely came to Yokohama as a strong favorite. Despite race-day rain, huge crowds lined the course to support the event. The rain meant a slight change of plan for Seely as she set her transition to prohibit water from pooling in her shoes and prosthetics.
“It [the rain] didn’t affect me mentally, which was the most important,” said Seely. “At the end of the day, it was actually a lot of fun to race in the rain.”
Yokohama drew not only large spectator crowds, but also more competition for Seely. Out of the water, Yukako Hata (Japan) led the race by almost 30 seconds. However, after a quick transition Seely recovered lost time. A technical bike course through Yokohama benefited Seely who raced aboard her Avow Advanced Pro and she moved into a comfortable lead, which she extended in the run.
“I am very excited I was able to pull together another win in Yokohama. I feel like I’m finding my stride more and more the further into the season we go,” said Seely.
Next up, Seely travels back to the states to the Omaha Women’s Triathlon on June 2-4 where she looks forward to connecting with participants during speaking events and clinics.
